The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of group activity program as a learning process for socialization in which one can find oneself and recognize the existence of others in the formation of the socialization and cohesion of a class.
The following 3 questions are presented to achieve the goal of this study.
1. Will the group-experience activity program improve the socialization of the class?
2. Will the group-experience activity program improve the social expansion of the class?
3. Will the group-experience activity program improve the social (also, how much extent is the effect on the sub-categories such as the ambience, trust, morale, the sense of unity and communication?) cohesion of the class?
The subjects for the study are one class of 46 elementary students in the 6th grade assigned to experimental group and one class of 46 students for control group.
The procedures of this experiment are pre-test, experimental action, and post-test.
The Group Counselling Program of Hyung Deuk Lee and the Personal Relationship Improvement Program of Korea Education Development Institute, revised for this experiment, were applied to the students as the experience-activity program, and the choices between measurement, exclusion quotient, group confirmation, and the amount of change of group cohesiveness were measured through the Socialization Test Tool of Moreno to test the change of socialization. The output data of the experiment were tested by t-test within the level, p<.05 using the spss/pc^(+) program.
The result of the study can be summarized as follows:
First, there was a significant difference(p<.05) from the post-test evidence of socialization between the experimental and control group.
Second, after applying the group-experience activity program, there was a very significant difference(p<.05) from pre- and post-test on the average score of expansion test, which shows the trait of the class to find out the degree of positivity for the selection of a friend-relationship.
Third, the effect of the group - experience activity program on the change of cohesion for children was from 2.88(normal) to 4.27(yes), increasing 1.39 point. This means that the group-experience activity program had a very positive effect on the formation of cohesion.
Finally, in both groups(experimental and control), all the sub-categories of cohesion showed a significant result as p<.05.
In conclusion, this study shows that the group-experience activity program improves the relationships among students and has a positive effect on the improvement of socialization and cohesion.
