The purpose of this study to understand growth characteristics of microalgaes under different light sources. Five species of microalgaes were selected from industrially used species. Light sources were Red LED(660nm), Blue LED(465nm) and Flourescent light with the light intensity of 100 μ㏖·m-2·s-1. As a result, Botryococcus braunii and Isochrysis galbana showed no difference between light sources, Chlorella vulgaris and Phaeodactylum tricornutum showed maximum growth at Red LED(660nm). Above all, P. tricronutum showed the best performance with the growth rate of 0.90 day-1. These study will be used as the basic data for selection of the light source in closed culture system.
