다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The symbolic words of Korean are different by the text. Therefore, specific usage should not be generalized. Usage of symbolic words is very frequent in cartoon and is being very effective. The usage rate is different by the genres and it is frequently used in comic cartoons or heroic cartoons and it is less frequently used in education cartoon. Symbolic words in cartoon usually indicate context information and onomatopoeia is more used than mimetic words. The usage of symbolic words in cartoons is informal. Symbolic words in general usually take reduplication while more repetitions are used in cartoons. Also, sometimes, dependent roots are used alone. As the syntactic characteristic, the symbolic words in cartoons can be used as independent words not related with other components. The symbolic words in cartoon often change forms to express the object more directly. In some cases, the forms of letters are differentiated for more realistic expression. Many of the symbolic words used in cartoon texts are not in the dictionary. Those are improvised by the writers or used by changing the symbolic words used before. However, the readers have no trouble understanding. Translated cartoons are useful materials to study the difference of symbolic words by the languages.
