This study is for helping women who are victims of family violence. By examining changes of their self-esteem and sociality, I hope they would overcome their selt-esteem escaping from family violence and live their new life through support of society.
These are main purposes of this study. First, I examine the influences of family violence to women. Second, I examine their self-esteem and sociality after family violence. Third, I examine their difficulties and adapting factors when they adapt to new life. Fourth, I examine how their self-esteem and sociality have changed while they experience adaptation.
For this study, I chose 4 women who are victims of family violence and live separately with family as objects of study. High impact interview was done and phenomenological approach was used among qualitative studies which find essentials of phenomenon by participants' subjective experience.
These are results from this study. First, family violence have affected negatively to their feeling, thought, behavior. Second, participants' self-esteem and sociality are affected negatively after they experienced family violence. Their self-esteem area, it turned out they experienced self-worthlessness, self-condemnation, a feeling of hopeless, lack of self-assertion, lack of self-satisfaction. In their sociality area, it turned out that they experienced passive problem solving attitude, avoiding personal relationship, distrust, weakening support function. Third, while they are adapting new life after separation with family, they have some difficulties in mental state, living, relationship with partner, and sociality. Fourth, when they adapt to their new life, there was some changes in their self-esteem and sociality. In their self-esteem area, it turned out they experienced with self-perception, recognition of desire, self value, self-respect, self-ability, self-assertion, and self-satisfaction. In their sociality area, it turned out that their children give energy to them, and they form a strong support system when they experience positive changes.
Based on those results, I would like to suggest a few things below. First, change of contorted awareness about family violence should be needed. Also we need a critical mind about family violence, and education for handling this problem. Second, securing support system must be needed for victims through social safety net including self-help group. Third, intervention and support of expert must be needed for victims. Fourth, building a network between victims and connection of community. And systematic management and continuous support are needed for women who are victims of family violence.
