The purpose of this paper is to analyze, from a historical perspective, the characteristics of poetic sensitiveness embedded in the Sijo (時調) poems written by Kinyeo(妓女) poets, the sole female poets who actively participated in the composition of Sijo poems, fixed form of verses typically of three lines popular in the Choson period. The Sijo poems of these Kinyeo poets characteristically reveal their inner sensitiveness toward men in the form of poetic dialogs, separation, and love, which were poeticized from the experiences of their association with men. The Kinyeo poets in the early and middle Choson period (1400~1700) enhanced to the utmost the possibility of Sijo poems as lyrics by obtaining the freedom of poetic sensitiveness, unconstrained by male authoritarianism, with the stateliness char was lacking in the poems of their contemporary male poets. By finding the ways of internalization, which was to poetically sublimate the oppressed desires of the enclosed self through rhe new acceptance of the tradition of Yeonsijo poems, stanzaic form of Sijo poems, those Kinyeo poets in the late period (1700~1900), on the other hand, succeeded in poetically overcoming their stereotyped poetic sensitiveness toward men, which had thus far been embodied as a mere expression of the feelings of passive love.
