This study aims to analyze the meaning of the deaths in Chasabonpuri based on the “otherness” of the dead from the living, focusing on the death of King Bermul’s sons, the twice death of the three surviving sons, and the death and reincarnation of Kangrim. The death that does not secure a meaningful otherness from the living is just an event. So, it could not be the object of the mourning. King Bermul’s three son’s deaths are finalized by the mere declaration of their death. For the Gwayangsun couple, they are means to earn moneynot the living creature, so they could not be subject to mourning. They are left as a corpse to deal with, not the objects of mourning. They are reincarnated, and it suggests the possibility of collective mourning. The three sons, who are reincarnated as the couple’s sons, die suddenly. As they were their sons, their otherness on Gwayangsun are secured sufficiently and meaningfully. The sons who fully secure otherness could be objects that signify the mourning that follows immediately after death. The death of Kangrim, who reveals cause of the three sons’ deaths, shows that the body’s vitality has been exhausted. In this scene, an immediate mourning could be found such as in the death declaration of King Bermul’s sons. People show sadness for Kangrim’s death, which could show Kangrim’s otherness is secured in them. The pattern of structuralist mourning appears in through the procedures for Kangrim’s death. Chasabonpuri shows various mourning process, and it means that the mourning is not fragmented one.
