This study aims to examine the creative works utilizing computer-controlled engraving machines in woodcuts and to understand the effects on the work process and expression techniques, and to inform creators and educators of the characteristics of utilizing computer-controlled engraving machines as an automated plate engraving method and expression technique. Woodcuts are a production method or expression technique utilized in various fields such as illustration, painting, and traditional printing. Recently, as the customization of three-dimensional objects using digital technology and the spread of automated production methods have expanded, interest in the production of woodcut works using computer-controlled engraving machines has also increased. This study analyzes woodcuts using computer-controlled engraving machines for the effective use of digital technology in creative works. The research method first examines the technical characteristics of hand-crafted woodcut engraving and computer-controlled woodcut engraving, and analyzes the characteristics of the conception and formation of works using computer-controlled engraving machines, and the work process through case studies. As a result of this study, it will be possible to automate the process of block carving for creators and the general public to approach the production of woodblock prints without the burden of specialized skills and labor in the manual carving process, and it will be possible to expand into a new woodblock print expression method that facilitates mixing between media through precisely carved plates based on digital technology, and it will be possible to expect the effect of an expression technique with free and continuous carving outlines that could not be seen in existing manual carving techniques, and it will be possible to access a wider variety of boards, which will contribute to expanding the range of diverse visual textures.
