The purpose of this study is to propose a effective teaching plan for singing lessons in middle school by applying Robert M. Gagné's teaching theory to the revised middle school music curriculum in 2002. For this purpose, a teaching plan for singing classes was designed for 3rd grade middle school students, and the plan was modified and supplemented after applying it to third grade middle school students in field.
The findings of this study are as follows. First, the results showed that the learners were more motivated and understood the singing lessons than when the lessons were taught without prior step-by-step planning. Second, the singing lesson plan that applied Robert Gané's teaching theory systematically presented the correct posture, breathing, and vocalization to the learners, which was helpful for them to apply their learning not only to the songs studied in class but also to other songs. Finally, the singing lesson plan that applies Robert Gané's teaching theory can be used to develop learners' inherent musical expression, and to gain learners’ confidence and satisfaction when singing.
Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that a singing lesson model that applies Robert Gané's teaching theory is effective for instructors and, more importantly, also for learners by suggesting step-by-step appropriate activities in music classes. I hope that the results of this study will be helpful for music teachers who want to design singing lessons in their music classes.
