In this paper, we first examined the types of Sun and Moon Image of Han dynasty, and intensively analyzed sun and moon image of Bokhee & Yeowa type(伏犧·女媧形) among them, which are the most deified images.
There are theree types of sun and moon images, the constellation type(星座 形), the immortal type(羽人形), the Bokhee & Yeowa type. Among these, the constellation and the Bokhee & Yeowa type are distributed throughout Henan (河南), Shandong(山東), Jiangsu(江蘇), Shaanxi(陝西), and Sichuan(四川).
Bokhee & Yeowa, who are the Sun and Moon gods, has its origins in the colored tomb mural paintings which are believed to have been recorded in the late West(西漢後期) and early East Han(東漢初期) period, and located in Luoyang, Henan Province. Also, the Hwanglo(黃老) and yin-yang(陰陽) thoughts that were popular during the West Han era worked for the background of the appearance of the gods of Bokhee & Yeowa as Sun and Moon gods.
Bokhee & Yeowa types, which are beginning to appear in earnest in the East Han era, show different characteristics by region. In Henan distirct, Bokhee & Yeowa type appears with holding the sun and moon in their chest. This form is also present in Shandong Province, which allows us to estimate the close cultural exchange between two geographically close regions. In addition, the sun and moon image of Bokhee & Yeowa type in Shaanxi Province, which has the fewest cases, shows the characteristics of Central China(中原) centered on Henan and Shandong.
Bokhee and Yeowa types, which are strong in local colors and show various forms, were actively produced in Sacheon. In this area, the deities of Bokhee and Yeowa appeared with various objects(持物). This is an example of the fact that the Bohee and Yeowa types, which were popular in the Hanan porvince, had a direct effect on Sichuan’s Bokhee & Yeowa types. In addition, the complex and diverse mating patterns(交尾形) showed the relationship with Shandong Province.
