This study explores the educational utility of ‘number-inclusive vocabulary’—expressions like ilseok-ijo (killing two birds with one stone) that are often creatively modified into forms such as ilseok-samjo. The paper defines these terms as words, phrases, or proverbs characterized by the inclusion of numerical elements from native, Sino-Korean, or loanword origins, categorizing them by linguistic source and structural unit.
Analytically, the study identifies that such variations emphasize meaning and create novelty through semantic exaggeration and formal juxtaposition. To integrate these findings into classrooms, a three-step instructional model is proposed: (1) recognition, (2) creative production, and (3) peer-based revision, supported by a practical student worksheet. Ultimately, this research aims to enhance students’ competence in understanding and generating creative lexical expressions in Korean.
