The effects of operating conditions on the performance of direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) were investigated. The simplified DMFC model was suggested to present two-phase mass transport phenomena. Various processing parameters, such as methanol concentration, anode/cathode flow rate, porosities of porous media, and the amount of methanol crossover were selected to investigate their effects on the DMFC performance. The results indicated that DMFC performance was strongly influenced by the amount of methanol crossover, the porosities of diffusion and catalyst layer, and the methanol flow rate. These simulation results were compared with the experimental data in I-V curve. The analytical results show a fairly good agreement with the experimental results and this simple model can be used as a design tool in the DMFC fabrication.
