The war brought many disasters to mankind. Wanrenkeng(萬人坑) is the iconicplace. Even in the 21st century, wars have continued, and historical evaluations andopinions surrounding the war are mixed. On the outside, they cry for peace andreconciliation, but on the inside they are different. The forces that rationalize anddistort the war and the criticism of the "denial of invasion war" are parallel. Thosewho experienced the concrete reality of empires and colonies were buried in theback of history, but the perceptions formed and transmitted through their activities, records, and memories are still constantly reproduced.
The problem is that the "struggle over memory" is not just a nationalresponsibility ethics of future generations due to the debt of past history, but is alsodirectly related to the future, such as common historical awareness and peaceinfrastructure in East Asia. This is why we want to dwell on the memories ofindividuals and groups made in asymmetric spaces such as empires, colonies, oranticolonies. Wanrenkeng(萬人坑), a Hainan China, is a place and space to reflect onthe present through the past. Through constant dialogue between the living and thedead, the Wanrenkeng(萬人坑) in Hainan aims to serve as a small pick-up in a truepeace era where aggression and war do not repeat. It is believed that the alternativeis the establishment of the Peace Memorial Hall.
But obstacles still exist. It is believed to be the Japanese government's response.
The Yasukuni shrine is its symbol. The Yasukuni acts as a device to induceoblivion of the wounds left by the war of aggression in Asia and to emphasize onlythe damage from Europe and the United States suffered at the end of theAsia-Pacific War, symbolized by the atomic bomb. Therefore, it is urgent to discussthe universality of true peace in Northeast Asia by raising the surface of history inWanrenkeng(萬人坑), the imperial era, with serious discussions on Japan's rapidly emerging Japanese nationalism and the scene.
