This study examines the effect of leader humility perceived by hotel employees on job performance and verifies the serial mediating effects of learning goal orientation and innovative behavior. In the hotel industry, where AI, robotics, and service automation are rapidly reshaping work processes, employees are continuously required to learn new skills, cope with service uncertainty, and improve service delivery in real time. Under such conditions, leader humility may function as a critical leadership mechanism because it signals openness to feedback, recognition of employees’ strengths, and willingness to learn, thereby encouraging employees’ growth-oriented motivation and change-oriented behavior. Based on social information processing theory and social learning theory, this study proposes that humble leader behavior fosters employees’ learning goal orientation, which in turn promotes innovative behavior and ultimately enhances job performance. The empirical test should be conducted with confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling using survey data collected from hotel employees. The expected contribution of this study lies in clarifying not only the direct effect of leader humility on job performance, but also the serial mechanism through which employees’ internal motivational orientation is translated into observable innovative action in the hotel context. Practically, the findings would suggest that hotel organizations need to incorporate humble leadership behaviors—such as feedback openness, acknowledgment of employee contributions, and support for learning—into leadership development, performance evaluation, and team management systems.
