In recent years much has been written on the topic of brief psychotherapy. Clinicians with varing orientations as well as therapy researchers have been shifting toward the brief model. The aim of this paper is to review the brief therapy, especially, short-term dynamic psychotherapies. In order to this, the historical development, necessity, and common characteristics of the brief therapy are explored.
And then, approaches to short-term dynamic psychotherapy are reviewed as the following topics: origins and development, the selection of patients for treatment, goals of treatment, theory of change, and techniques etc. In the last section, we describe some considerations on the brief on the brief therapist training, limitations and the prospects of the brief psychotherapy.
