Young people confront the cultural change of today, they participate and accept actively as well as critically in the new culture. To understand like this present situation, this study tried to analyze youth ‘culture participation’ conceptually, and classify it's categories and patterns in cultural change. In addition to, interpret meaning and context of the cultural experience based on the interviews.
According to the analysis, ‘culture participation’ is explained with three dimensions: participation in a variety of cultural fields, participation as cultural practice, buildup of culture through participation. It also is categorized personal-social, receptive-critical, institutional-non institutional things. And it is classified into types as attitude, time, space, subject of planning, form, issues, direction, aim. Especially, practices of culture participation in the internet, mass culture, and social issues shows it's compositive feature.
The interview of youth experience reveals the meaning and context of culture participation in youth life. Young people get the motivation through a variety of pre-experience. They think culture participation changes themselves in that it offers many chances of showing their ability, being approved socially, networking and communicating, changing their values. On the one hand they comment liberality, individuality, passion as the positive feature of culture participation, and on the other hand trend chasing, individualism, exclusiveness as the negative feature of it. Lastly, they point out prejudice, lack of access and education opportunity as a limit.
In conclusion, for the meaningful realization of youth culture participation, four tasks needed as a whole. First, understanding and accepting of the individuality of youth are demanded. Second, getting open mind on cultural change is needed. Third, acquiring of 'cultural language' must be accomplished. The acquiring of ‘cultural language’ is the process of growth for the whole person. Finally, extending of access and education opportunity is essential to cultural life.
