국문 초록 (Abstract)

미국의 신자유주의는 2차대전 이후의 정치·사회·경제적 상황의 변화에 따른 제반 이념들의 상호작용과 그 영향에 의해 1980년대 초 형성되기 시작한 하나의 경제중심적 이데올로기로서 종국적으로 민주당이 그러한 이념적 정향을 수용하면서부터 하나의 이념으로서의 명칭이 정착되었다. 신좌파운동의 세력이 쇠퇴하면서 사회에 반좌파적 분위기가 형성되고 권리중심적 자유주의의 문제점들이 부각되면서 그에 대립되는 여러 이념들이 등장하고 이에 따라 신자유주의가 출현할 수 있는 환경이 조성된다. 신자유주의의 발생에 직접적으로 영향을 미친 이념은 신보수주의, 신우익 그리고 자유지상주의라고 할 수 있다. 신보수주의의 영향은 그것의 자유주의적 국제주의이며 신우익의 영향은 그것의 자유시장경제의 옹호에 있다. 그러나 신자유주의의 직접적인 이념적 모체는 고전적 자유주의를 현대적으로 계승한 자유지상주의라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 우익적인 제반 이념들에 의해 형성된 자유시장 경제와 세계적인 자유무역의 이념이 민주당에 의해 수용되면서 신자유주의적 콘센서스가 나타나게 되었다고 할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The American neoliberalism is a economy-centered ideology which began to be formed early 1980s by the interaction and influence of the ideas according to the changes of political, social and economic situations since World War Two. Its terminology was eventually settled after the acceptance of the ideology by the Democratic Party. The decline of the New Left Movement, spreading of the anti-left atmosphere in society and the increasing recognition of the problems of rights-centered liberalism fostered the appearance of new ideas and created the circumstances of the neoliberalism's rise. The main ideas which influenced directly on the birth of neoliberalism are neoconservatism, the New Right and libertarianism. The liberal internationalism of neoconservatism and the defense of the liberal market economics of the New Right flowed into the framework of neoliberalism. But the central ideological matrix of neoliberalism is the contemporary libertarianism which succeeded to the classical libertarianism newly. Thus formed neoliberalism propelled strongly the ideas of liberal market economics and liberal global trade. And after they were received by the Democratic Party, the neoliberal consensus appeared in America.
