While the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has significantly improved human convenience and contributed to solving complex problems, it has also given rise to various social and ethical concerns, such as deepfakes, algorithmic bias, and privacy infringement. In response, major countries around the world have increased their focus on AI ethics to address the unintended consequences of AI development. Against this backdrop, the present study aims to examine the status of international collaborative research in the field of AI ethics. For empirical analysis, we utilized SCI-grade journal articles on AI ethics published in Scopus between 2018 and 2022, and applied the KDD/KM co-authorship method to conduct a network analysis of international collaboration. The centrality analysis revealed that the United States ranked highest in both the number of internationally co-authored publications and centrality indicators, demonstrating its pivotal role within the international collaboration network. Furthermore, the findings reveal that international collaborative research is largely concentrated among a limited number of countries in North America and Europe. In contrast, countries in Asia, including South Korea, still show relatively low levels of engagement in international AI ethics research. This study provides practical insights that can inform future strategies for fostering international cooperation and active participation in global discussions on AI ethics at the national policy level.
