Aseries of elasto-viscoplastic finite element analyses is carried out to investigate the effect of the permeability and compressibility of the Pleistocene gravelly sand layers on the stress-deformation characteristics of the Pleistocene deposits in Osaka Port. The relevant procedure to evaluate the rigidity of the Pleistocene gravelly sand layers is also introduced. It is found that the estimation of the elastic shear modulus, Go as well as permeability of the Pleistocene gravelly sand layers plays a significant role for the settlement prediction of the reclaimed islands in Osaka Port.
