캐나다한인문학연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 저서는 먼저 캐나다한인문단의 형성과정과 그 활동상을 살피고, 캐나다한인문학을 시문학, 소설문학, 수필문학, 문학비평 등 각 장르별로 그 특성을 연구하였다.
본 저서는 캐나다한인문학 가운데 디아스포라 문학으로서의 경험과 정체성, 그리고 개성이 드러나는 작품들만을 논의의 대상으로 삼아 그 특성을 연구하였다. 즉 한국문학인지 캐나다한인문학인지 전혀 구별할 수 없는 작품들은 연구대상에서 제외하였다.
전 장르에 걸친 캐나다한인문학에 대한 고찰에서 볼 때, 한인들은 이주 초기에 겪었던 정체성 갈등과 문화충격, 그리고 부적응의 단계를 벗어나서 캐나다에 성공적으로 안착해 나가는 한인들의 디아스포라의 경험과 삶을 진솔하게 보여주고 있다. 백인중심사회에서 유색인종 이민자로서 한인들은 피부색과 언어의 차이로 인해 이주 초기에는 현지 적응에 어려움도 겪었지만 점차 문화적응을 이루고 모국문화와 거주국 문화를 통합해 나갔다는 것을 그들의 문학은 보여준다. 캐나다한인문학은 소수민족으로서의 주변적 경계를 뛰어넘어 캐나다의 주류문단에 경쟁력을 갖춘 캐나다 공용어로 작품을 쓰는 뛰어난 한인작가가 출현될 수 있도록 최대한 노력을 경주해야 한다. 나아가 40여 년의 역사를 쌓아온 캐나다한인문학을 체계적으로 정리하고, 캐나다한인으로서 후손들에게 어떤 정체성을 심어주고, 문화적 전통을 계승시킬 것인가에 대해서도 고민해야 한다.
