메를로－퐁티의 신체의 현상학과 간호에서의 질병체험 = Merleau-ponty’s Phenomenology of Body and the Experience of Illness in Nursing

국문 초록 (Abstract)

메를로－퐁티의 몸의 현상학은 이 세상과 친숙하게 소통하고 거주하는 실존적인 주체로서 몸의 지향성을 기술하고 있다. 그의 현상학은 의학적인 질병 치료의 대상으로서 객관화 된 몸에 관심을 두기보다, 질병을 체험하는 육화된 주체로서의 몸에 대해 관심을 둔다. 그의 몸의 현상학은 질병으로 인해 손상 받은 개인의 신체의 경험을 이해하고, 자신이 거주하는 익숙한 상황에 반응할 수 있는 습관적인 몸의 능력을 회복시키는 간호실천의 관점을 제공할 수 있다. 왜냐하면 세계에 참여하고 거주할 수 있는 몸의 실존적 능력에 손상을 입은 환자의 몸의 체험을 이해할 수 있을 때, 비로소 간호사는 환자 자신이 처한 상황에 반응할 수 있는 그의 몸의 통합적 능력을 다시 회복할 수 있도록 도와주고 지원해 줄 수 있기 때문이다. 또한 메를로－퐁티의 몸의 현상학은 생의학적 모델에 의해 간과되어왔던 신체적 상호관계를 통해 형성되는 돌봄의 감성적 특성에 대한 새로운 이해를 가능하게 한다. 예를 들어 환자의 몸과 접촉하는 간호사의 손은 육화 된 인격적 자아로서 환자 자신의 몸을 스스로 지각하게 하고 통합시키는 치유의 힘을 지닌다. 여기서 간호실무의 신체성은 신체적 접촉을 통해 자아로서의 몸의 능력을 재통합하는 인격적이며 감성적 돌봄의 특성을 지니는 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Merleau-ponty’s phenomenology of body described a embodied existential subject that is situated and dwells in the world. His phenomenology does not only concern with the body as an object of the medical treatment, but also as a subject of the lived experience of illness. His phenomenology can provide nursing with a richer, more adequate philosophical basis for the understanding the human experiences of illness, disability, recovery, and endurance in the face of ongoing suffering. His perspective on the embodied subject enable nurse to understand the damaged and debilitated bodily experience of patient und to provide the point of the recovery of the bodily capacity or habitual body to respond to the situation in nursing practice. This phenomenology of embodiment offers a new understanding and appreciation of skilled bodily nursing practices, which have gone unrecognized or unvalued within the dominant biomedical model. For example, even if the nurses’s hand is also knowledgeable of medical science, the patient still expects that the nurse’s hand ist primarily a healing hand, which touches not only the physical body, but also the self, the whole embodied person, This bodily personal touch may well constitute the core meaning of the healing act of nursing care, because it gives a patient reuniting with his or her body, thus making life liveable again. Then, this caring hand has the power to reunite him patically with his body, reminding his body as the self and thus making it possible for him to heal, to strengthen, to become whole subject.
