어머니의 양육행동이 유아의 불안 및 우울에 미치는 영향：유아의 자아탄력성의 매개적 역할 = Linking Maternal Parenting Behavior to Preschoolers' Anxiety and Depression：The Mediating Effects of Preschoolers' Ego-Resilience

The purpose of the current study was to examine the mediating effects of preschoolers' ego-resilience on relations between maternal parenting behavior, and preschoolers' anxiety and depression A total of 155 mothers with preschoolers(aged 3-4 years, M = 46.87 month, SD = 4.64 month) participated in this study. Mothers reported on their parenting, preschoolers' ego-resilience, and preschoolers' anxiety and depression. There were three major findings. First, maternal parenting behavior and preschoolers' ego-resilience were significantly related to preschoolers' anxiety and depression. While only maternal rejection/control was significantly and negatively related to preschoolers' anxiety levels, all three parenting behavior variables (i.e., warmth/acceptance, rejection/control, permissiveness/neglect) were significantly related to preschooler's depression. Second, resilient children displayed less anxiety and depression. Finally, preschoolers' ego-resilience mediated relations between maternal parenting and preschoolers' anxiety and depression, suggesting that maternal parenting behavior indirectly influence anxiety and depression through ego-resilience. These findings suggest that both individual(ego-resilience) and environmental factors(maternal parenting behavior) should be considered together to explain anxiety and depression during the preschool period.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 어머니의 양육행동, 유아의 자아탄력성, 그리고 유아의 불안 및 우울 간의 관계를 살펴보고, 어머니의 양육행동과 유아의 불안 및 우울 간의 관계에서 유아의 자아탄력성의 매개효과를 탐색하였다. 연구대상은 서울시에 소재한 어린이집에 다니고 있는 만 3-4세의 유아 155명과 그들의 어머니였다. 어머니들은 자신의 양육행동과 유아의 자아탄력성, 유아의 불안 및 우울에 관한 질문지에 응답하였다. 그 결과, 어머니의 양육행동은 유아의 불안 및 우울에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 어머니들이 거부․제재적 양육행동을 보일수록, 유아의 불안 수준이 높았다. 우울의 경우, 어머니들이 유아를 온정․수용적으로 양육한다고 보고할수록, 유아의 우울수준이 낮았으며, 거부․제재적으로, 허용․방임적으로 양육한다고 보고할수록 유아의 우울 수준이 높았다. 또한 자아탄력성이 높은 유아는 불안과 우울 수준이 낮은 것으로 어머니에 의해 보고되었다. 마지막으로, 어머니의 양육행동은 자아탄력성을 매개로 하여 유아의 불안 및 우울에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과들은 유아기 불안과 우울을 설명하기 위하여 개인적 측면으로서의 자아탄력성과 환경적 측면으로서의 양육행동이 함께 고려되어야 함을 시사한다.
