This study was intended to the relationship between preschoolers` mastery orientations and the performance achievement in the kindergarten. The subjects of this study were 157, from three-year-old to five-year-old children. Instrument used in measures preschoolers` mastery orientations was Lange`s short form COMPSCALE(1997), which is translated into Korean and measures the performance achievement was Observation Scale for Young Children by Education Department of Government in 1995. Observation Scale for Young Children was based on The Fifth Curriculum of Preschooler`s. The main conclusions from the study were as follows: 1. `Spontaneous mastery experience` is the most important factor in the developed mastery orientations of young children. There were no differences of gender and age in the developed mastery orientations. 2. The performance achievement of five subjects was increased according to age in the kindergarten. Girls got more better performance achievement score than boys in the four subjects. 3. Developed mastery orientations of young children was related with the performance achievement in the kindergarten.
