To assess the hypotensive efficacy of 5 antihypertensive drugs, i.e. ramipril, nitrendipine, manidipine, enalapril and niftdipine GITS (Gastrointestinal Therapeutic System), two ABP (Ambulatory blood pressure) recordings were obtained before and after treatment.
Data were analyzed for 24 hour mean, night time, day time, mean arterial pressure and % elevated blood pressure, and compared with CBP (clinic blood pressure). There were large discrepancy between CBP and ABP.
In conclusion, ABP monitoring is more correct and reliable method in evaluating antihypertensive efficacy of many drugs ; by eliminating placebo effect, reducing sample size, selecting proper patient. Furthermore it exerts maximal merit in evaluation of night·time blood pressure change which is critical for prevention of cardiovascular events during night and in the early morning.
