With the rapid growth of e-commerce, consumers' consumption patterns are becoming more segmented. In addition, with the introduction of retail tech technology, various distribution channels have emerged, and as e-commerce grows rapidly and technologies based on the 4th industrial revolution such as AI, IOT, and AR develop, retailers with technological capabilities aim to improve customer experience. and provide a distribution environment using technology. Influenced by this, as a new alternative to offline stores, retail as a service (RaaS) space, which collects consumer experience data and provides it to retailers, has emerged.
Retail as a service - RaaS (Retail as a Service) space focuses on customer experience rather than sales, providing innovative products that cannot be found in regular stores through communication between consumers and brands.
In the future, consumers' purchasing patterns should focus on quenching their thirst for general information in the discovery stage and arousing curiosity about the product, rather than selling a certain product at a certain price. Even if a consumer sees a product in an offline store and finally does not buy anything, if the store experience remains positive, it is because the purchase of the item is made through various online channels.
A curation service that selects the information consumers need is applied to create a model that attracts consumers to the store by providing a consumption experience incorporating various technologies that are more advanced than service-type retail spaces used by brands in the space as exhibition halls. The purpose is to stably develop the Retail as a Service space and create a convenient space.
Therefore, this study derived visual and functional components of curation service through theoretical considerations and previous studies. Image, text, dynamic elements, and layout are applicable to visual components, and shopping convenience, information reliability, selection efficiency, information satisfaction, and personal customization are applicable to functional components. Based on the components, five design characteristics of curation service that can be applied to space, experience, symbolism, expandability, interactivity, and territoriality were derived, and a space design corresponding to these was presented.
Based on the previous research, domestic. Through the investigation of other cases, how the curation service characteristics were reflected in the current Retail as a Service space composition was identified and analyzed. As a result of the study, in order for the current service-type retail space to evolve beyond a simple product placement model,
First, it is necessary to focus on customer behavior data rather than delivering general information about products using interactivity, and apply curation services to the space to approach a consumer-customized business based on various interactions.
Second, it is necessary to emphasize the symbolism of the brand image space and external space using visual effects, and induce revisit by raising consumers' interest so that it can be imprinted as a memorable brand to
consumers.
Third, in the brand service space, the reliability of information delivery for curated products and the territoriality of each product/tenant space should be clearly emphasized to avoid confusion in the movement of consumers.
Fourth, in the community space and cultural space, elements that stimulate consumers' five senses are used to induce active participation, and by curating events, performances, and exhibitions that change according to the season, the effect of experience and scalability of consumers who demand change is maximized. and can accommodate access to various consumer groups.
In this way, we would like to propose a model that maximizes the expression characteristics of curation services according to the type and configuration of each service-type retail space.
Therefore, based on this study, it is expected that curation service characteristics will be flexibly applied to the retail space, strengthening the sympathy between brands and consumers, and becoming an integrated approach to playing a role in helping the development of offline retail spaces.
