리미디에이션 이론을 기반으로 대체 북 아트(Altered Book Art)의 개념화를 위한 요소화 = Elements for the Conceptualization of Altered Book Art based on the Remediation Theory

Culture is mediated in some form, interconnected and coexisting as human beings live and as cultural media develops. Thus, this mediations can be renewed by maintaining or transforming the prototype of cultural media with the development of culture and technology. In this study, how did the book become a book art? In other words, I identified elements for the conceptualization of altered book art : elements for New Media Art theory through borrowing, representation, fidelity, aggressive, absorb and refashion. Therefore I have replaced seven elements, extinction, modification, representation, application, expansion, reformation and challenge and have proposed the conceptualization of altered book art. For case study, it was selected five artists who can represent the direction of creation and the genealogical system of the altered book art and mystery book sculptures art works have selected and classified as the book types and non-book type. The elements of altered book art were identified by applying them to all 14 works. The research result has established the system for classifying altered book art based on elements of the altered book art, such as extinction, modification, representation, application, expansion, reformation and challenge. In future research, elements of altered book art are applied to new forms in virtual space to attempt to analyze and produce the work.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

문화는 인류가 살아오면서 그리고 문화적 매체가 발전되어 오면서 어떤 형태로든 매개되어 상호 연관되며 공존한다. 그러므로 이러한 매개는 문화의 발전과 기술의 발전으로 문화적 매체의 원형을 유지하거나 변형되어 새롭게 리미디에이션 되기도 한다. 본고는 책이 어떻게 리미디에이션 되어 북 아트가 되었는가? 즉 뉴미디어 아트의 리미디에이션 요소인 차용(borrowing), 재현(representation), 확장(fidelity), 공격(aggressive), 흡수(absorb) 그리고 개조(refashion)의 6가지 특성을 책과 매개된 북 아트 즉 대체 북 아트에 적용하여 순수미술의 표현 기법으로 리미디에이션된 대체 북 아트의 요소를 확인하였다. 따라서 7가지 요소들인 소멸(extinction), 수정(modification), 재현(representation), 활용(application), 확장(expansion), 재창조(reform), 도전(challenge)을 도출하고 대체 북 아트의 요소화를 제안하였다. 사례분석을 위해 창작의 방향성과 계보적 체계성을 대표 할 수 있는 5명의 아티스트들과 미스터리 북 스컬프처의 대표 작품들을 선정하여 형태론적 분류에 따른 책의 형태와 비(非)책의 형태로 구분하고 모두 14가지의 작품에 적용함으로서 대체 북 아트의 요소들의 타당성을 파악하였다. 연구결과는 대체 북 아트의 요소인 소멸, 수정, 재현, 활용, 확장, 재창조, 도전을 기반으로 대체 북 아트를 분류하는 체계를 수립하였다. 그러므로 소멸적 대체 북 아트, 수정적 대체 북 아트, 재현적 대체 북 아트, 활용적 대체 북 아트, 확장적 대체 북 아트, 재창조적 대체 북 아트, 도전적 대체 북 아트의 체계성이 확인되었다. 향후연구는 대체 북 아트에 대한 요소들을 가상공간 속의 새로운 형태에 적용시켜 작품의 분석과 제작을 시도한다.
