This study is to identify the teacher roles resulted from the different paradigms in the educational applications of computer. they emerge as two facets : 1) the one in the computer utilization appropriate for the education in information era, 2) the other in the effective and efficient utilization of computer- based instruction(CBI) that means the instructional application of computer in a specific subject matter. This study maintains the necessities of trans formation of teacher role for the educational applications of computer required for information society. Based on the requirements, it suggests 4 types of the teacher role as follows : 1) facilitator, 2) reflective implementer, 3) information manager, 4) learning partner. Moreover, it indicates how the teacher role in the utilization of CBI would by different from that in traditional instructional methods and specifies the teacher role in the whole process of the utilization in terms of planning, implementation, evaluation. In this study, we could find the desirable teacher roles in the two different paradigms of computer applications in education and discover the values that would propose the directions on the training of pre- and in-service teacher.
