The study was designed to find how to utilize virtual discus sion(computer - conference) in order to improve the quality of higher education rather than to get empirical data to jus tify it in replacing face- to- face dis cuss ion in distance learning. Thus, the purpose of the study was to examine effects of extroversion/ introversion on virtual dis cus s ion. Based on the thorough review of the existing studies related, the followings were hypothesized: 1) Introverts would spend more time on participating asynchronous virtual discus s ions than extroverts ; 2) Introverts would give more opinions than extroverts in asynchronous virtual discus s ion; 3) Introverts would perceive the attributes of asynchronous virtual discus s ions as well as extroverts, but consider to have more effects on virtual discussion than extroverts ; 4) Introverts would feel more comfortable in communicate affective information than extroverts in asynchronous virtual discussion. The subjects were Twenty- seven freshmen enrolled in the same course. The Top Class 1.2.1 of WBT Systems were used to enable them to dis cuss asynchronously and virtually for 12 days. The subjects were classified as extroverts or introverts, based on the results of the MBT I. According to the results collected through a survey and the Top Class system, Introverts spent as much as extroverts, but expressed more messages than extroverts in virtual discus s ion. However, there were no significant different in perception of the attributes of virtual discus s ion and effects of the attributes on discus s between introverts and extroverts. Therefore, more studies were requested to conclude that asynchronous virtual dis cuss ion would be more pertinent to introverts than extroverts.
