Purpose: This study was conducted to systematically review and analyze the methods and effect of a prophylactic dressing applied to prevent pressure injuries. Methods: In this study, a systematic review was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines. The inclusion criteria were as follows: the population (p) consisted of hospitalized adult patients over 18 years of age, the interventions (I) were prophylactic dressing, the comparison (C) was with usual care, the out- come (O) was prevention (incidence) of pressure ulcers, and study design (SD) was all prospective RCTs. This systematic review was registered with PROSPERO on September 11, 2021 (CRD42021272944). Results: Nine articles (4,260 patients) were finally included in the systematic review. Regarding the overall bias, one study had a low risk, three studies had some concerns and five studies had high risk. As for the effect of prophylactic dressings, 8 studies presented statistically significant results, and 1 study presented not statistically significant results. Conclusion: In studies excluding one study, there was an effect of prophylactic dressing to prevent pressure injury in adult patients admitted to the hospital. The re- sults of this study can be used as a scientific basis for preventing pressure injuries in hospitalized adult patients.
