    Determinants of Span of Control in Korean Quasi-governmental Organizations

    The quasi-government organizations are ones that are given some public subsidies by the government but have their own decision making mechanisms by maintaining strict independence from the government. Therefore many academics assert that quasi-governments blur the boundary between public and private sectors which leaves us to address the controversy between the ideas of management autonomy and democratic accountability. This research aims to examine the relationships among the span of control of antecedent variables that may cause variations among Korean quasi-governments. The results support Gulick's theory that types of organization, size, space, stability and diversity affect how spans of control are designed, and that these variables have different effects that depend on the organizational hierarchy's level. The findings of the study are helpful to build the system of governance and to wield government innovation to a favorable direction.
