Purpose: We will propose the morphological variations of theoretical safe space of the acetabular fossa by anatomical study for the transacetabular screws in complex acetabular fractures. Materials and Methods: With 25 acetabulums of Korean adults, a acetabulum was divided into 8 pieces after removal of the soft tissue. We measured as follows: a: thickness measured from quadrilateral plate to articular cartilage b: thickness of acetabular fossa margin including articular cartilage and cortical bone d: thickness of most shallow portion of the acetabular fossa We calculated the safe space(e) of the acetabular fossa with the equation of a-b-d. Results: After the analysis of data, the most shallow safe space of the acetabular fossa was posterior inferior portion which was measured 4.8mm as average. And the other sites were measured 8-10 mm as average. Conclusion: From the above data, this study revealed that the posterior inferior portion of the acetabular fossa would be most danger area when the operator used the screw for internal fixation of the acetabular fracture through the acetabular fossa.
