국제교류 참여 대학생 특성에 대한 국제비교 : 한국·중국 대학생 중심으로 = A study on Different Factors Affecting Decisions of International Exchange Students in Colleges : Focusing on College Students from Korea and China

국문 초록 (Abstract)

교육현장에서 국제교류에 대한 요구가 점점 커지고 있고, 많은 대학교들이 국제교류를 실시하고 있거나 추진을 계획하고 있다. 더욱이 최근 한국, 중국은 주변 국가들의 우수인재를 유치하기 위해서 국가 및 대학차원에서 다양한 노력을 기울이고 있다. 하지만 실제 잠재적인 유학생들이 어떤 이유에서 이들 나라와 대학을 선택하고, 이들이 현지 대학에 적응하는데 어떤 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 성과에 대해서 어떻게 생각하고 있는지에 대한 정보는 미미한 실정이다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 학생의 관점에서 주변에서 주변으로 이동하는 동기요인을 찾아보고, 주변에 속한 국가와 대학을 선택하는데 영향을 주는 요인을 통합적인 관점에서 밝히고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 한·중 대학생의 국제교류 참여 결정의도에 영향을 미치는 변인은 개인특성 요인, 상대국 이미지 요인, 국제교류 프로그램 참여 이유 요인 그리고 국가선호 이유 요인들이 이에 유의한 변인으로 밝혀졌다. 분석결과를 기초로 해서, 본 논문은 정부와 대학차원에서 국제교류 활성화할 수 있는 정책적, 제도적 모색방안을 제시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Growing needs for internationalization of higher education worldwide, increasing number of colleges and universities seek for effective implementation and pushing ahead of the international exchange. Further, Korea and China put in a great deal of effort to attract the talented students from neighboring countries recently. However, few studies have been conducted to understand international student mobility between neighboring countries in regional hubs. In this respect, his study aims to identify the motivational factors for such mobility, focusing on students of elite private universities in Korea and China. We collected a sample of 623 Korean and 314 Chinese students and analyzed data with logistic regressions. The findings suggest that such various factors as individual background variables, image factors of study abroad nation, international exchange participation reason factor and nation preference reason factor have significant impacts on their decision of participating in international exchange program. Based on the results, this paper further discusses implications for national and institutional policy and practices.
