'혼인화소' 설화의 전래동화로의 변용에 따른 '혼인'의 의미 변화 고찰 -「나무꾼과 선녀」,「구렁덩덩 신선비」를 중심으로 -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 오랜 세월 동안 구전되어 온 ‘설화’가 아동용 ‘전래동화’로 각색과정을 거치면서 설화에 내재된 보편적 가치가 개인에 의해 무분별하게 훼손되는 것에 심각한 문제를 느끼고, 설화 가운데에서 ‘혼인화소담’에 집중하여 설화에 나타난 ‘혼인’의 의미가 아동용 전래동화로 각색되면서 어떻게 변용되었는가를 확인하기 위하여 시작되었다.
본 연구는 ‘혼인화소’ 이야기에 주목하여 혼인과 관련된 제반 문제가 어떻게 다뤄지고 있는지 살펴봄으로써 옛이야기가 전하는 혼인의 진정한 의미, 조건 등이 무엇인지 확인하고, 그것이 아동용 전래동화에서 어떻게 변화되었는지 면밀히 검토함으로써 전래동화의 무분별한 각색의 문제점과 심각성을 함께 인식해보고자 하였다.
본 연구는 ‘혼인화소담’ 가운데 <나무꾼과 선녀>와 <구렁덩덩 신선비>를 주요 연구대상으로 삼았다. 두 이야기를 대상으로 한 이유는 모두 ‘혼인’을 중심 문제로 다루고 있으며, 혼인에 이르기까지의 과정은 물론 혼인이후의 삶까지 자세히 다루고 있다는 공통점을 가지고 있고, 두 이야기의 주인공 모두 도입부부터 적극적으로 ‘혼인’을 바라고 있으며 주인공뿐만 아니라 배우자의 삶의 문제도 함께 다뤄지고 있어서 ‘혼인’과 관련된 제반 문제를 살펴보기에 적합한 이야기라고 판단하였기 때문이다.
본 연구는 애초의 계획대로 지금까지 <나무꾼과 선녀>, <구렁덩덩 신선비>의 각 작품별 유화(類話)를 수집하고, 면밀히 검토하여, 두 작품의 유화의 내용을 화소별로 세세히 정리하고, 이를 토대로 각 설화의 서사구조를 파악하였으며, 이에서 더 나아가 현재 시중에서 유통되고 있는 국내 굴지의 출판사의 아동용 전래동화를 검토하는 것까지 연구를 추진하였다.
그 결과, 분석 대상으로 삼은 아동용 두 전래동화 <선녀와 나무꾼>, <구렁덩덩 신선비>에서 몇 가지 공통적인 문제점을 발견할 수 있었는데 그것은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 불필요한 수식구 삽입이나 상황 변형으로 등장인물의 성격을 변형하였고, 둘째, 주요 사건을 임의로 바꾸거나 생략함으로써 모든 서사의 기본인 개연성이 사라졌으며, 셋째, 본래의 이야기를 필요에 따라 무분별하게 수정, 왜곡함으로써 결과적으로 이야기의 지향점인 ‘전제’가 무너진 점이다. 이 때문에 <선녀와 나무꾼>에서는 선녀 승천의 이유가 상실되고, 승천하기까지와 승천 후의 선녀의 행동에 일관성이 없으며, <구렁덩덩 신선비>의 경우에는 신선비가 아내에게 금기를 내린 이유와 의미를 추적하기 어렵게 되었을 뿐만 아니라 ‘혼인’의 의미 역시 희석된 것을 확인하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is to find the problem which the universal value in the 'folk tales' spread by word of mouth for a long time has been distorted by individuals in the process of being modified into fairy tales for children and to confirm how the meaning of 'marriage' in folk tales of 'marriage motif stories‘ has been modified through the adaptation into the fairy tales for children.
This study, focusing on the 'marriage motif', is to realize the problems and seriousness of indiscreet adaptation for old tales by examining how the related problems with marriage are treated, confirming the real meaning and condition of marriage in old tales and reviewing how they are changed in the fairy tales for children.
The main objects of this study are <The Woodcutter and The Fairy> and <Gurungdungdung Sinsunbi>. These stories treat the main problem with 'marriage' and have something in common that they minutely treat process of marriage and the life after marriage. Also, these stories are suitable to explore the various problems related to 'marriage' because main characteries of these stories actively want 'marriage' in the introduction and the problems of spouse life are treated together.
