영화에 나타난 기녀와 게이샤 복식에 관한 연구 = A Study on costume of Ginyu and Geisha in historical movies

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims for two things. One is analyzing Ginyu and Geisha culture and costume. And other is finding out that in the mass media, is the traditional costume is made with studied historical evidence by looking Ginyu and Geisha costumes at movie. This would be a chance for informing our traditional culture and costume by movie.
This study looks at 4 movies made after 2006.
It is "Memories of a Geisha"(2006), "Sakuran"(2007) and two Korean movies, "Hwang Jin-yi"(2007) and "Miindo"(2008). By looking at this four movies, this study looks at Ginyu and Geisha culture and costume.
Ginyu wore ordinary dress and ceremonial dress, different from other lowest class. Ginyu is in lowest class, but they could wear samhuijang jogori and put on gold, silver, good silk and leather shoes.
Geisha normally wears Kimono like others and for ceremonial dress they have wore Kimono. Geisha's costume is decorated at pattern compared to ordinary women costume and there is a difference in hair accessories, obi's tying shape, shoe, collar and length of backskirt.
"Hwang Jin-yi" was applauded for modern color Hanbok design, but it was different from the actual hanbok design. "Miindo" focuses on genre picture, so it presents almost same of that period's costume.
"Memories of A Geisha" is awarded for Academy's costume award for expressing the costume beautifully, however material, silhouette and pattern is slightly different from the actual design. Movie "Sakuran"'s costume reflects late Edo's costume and it's red and brilliant pattern was purpose of the director.
This study limited only two Korean and two Japanese movie. Afterward this study expects at the movies, the right information of costume and culture is presented.
