한수재 권상하의 역학(易學) 이해 = A Study on Kwon Sang-ha’s Understanding of the Dynamics(易學)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문에서는 권상하의 역학에 관한 이해를 살펴보고, 그 역사적 의의를 궁구하였다. 권상하는 송시열의 적전제자로서 호론 사상의 성립에 지대한 역할을 하였던 인물이다. 그러나 그의 사상에 관한 연구는 생각보다 부진한 편이었다. 특히 조선 후기 상수학에 대한 관심이 당시 사상계를 이해하는 관건이 된다는 점에서, 권상하 역학은 주목될 필요가 있다. 먼저 권상하의 학술관과 역학 이해의 기본 관점을 살펴보았다. 권상하의 사상은 율곡학파의 학설을 계승하면서도 그것을 변화시키는 데에 특징이 있었다. 권상하의 역학 이해는 의리역을 근간으로 하는 관점을 유지하였다. 이러한 권상하의 의리에 근간한 역학 이해는 자신이 활동하면서 지켜내고자 하였던 춘추의리와 크게 공명하고 있는 것이었다. 또한 음양의 교차를 중심으로 세상이 생겨나는 과정을 강조한 그의 역학은 현실 세계에서 이기가 작동하여 인간 심성의 특성을 구성하는 과정에 대한 이해와 밀접히 연결된 것이었다.
다음으로는 권상하의 역학이 그의 정치적ㆍ사상적 활동을 어떻게 뒷받침하고 있었는지 살펴보았다. 권상하 역시 기수의 굴신에 따라 일치일란이 생겨나고, 화이가 전도된 당시의 현실은 바로 기수 변화에 의거한 것이라는 역사 인식을 공유하고 있었다. 그러나 권상하는 특히 기수 변화에 따른 역사 인식을 율곡학파-노론의 정치적 정당성을 천명하는 데에 활용하였다. 권상하의 역학은 당시 인간심성에 대한 이해를 두고 벌어진 호락논쟁과도 밀접하게 관련되어 있었다. 권상하는 심성론의 다양한 논제들을 이해할 때에 역학에 대한 연구를 기반으로 하였다. 이를 통해 본다면, 권상하의 역학 이해는 그의 정치적ㆍ사상적 활동을 뒷받침하고 있는 것이었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examines Kwon Sang-ha's understanding of the dynamics(易學) and explores its historical meaning. As a direct disciple of Song Si-yeol, Kwon Sang-ha played an important role in establishing the Horon school. However, research on his ideas has been relatively scarce. This is particularly significant given that interest in the Sangsuhak(象數學) during the late Joseon period is key to understanding the intellectual landscape of the time, Kwon Sang-ha's understanding of the dynamics deserves attention. First, this study examined Kwon Sang-ha's scholarly perspective and the fundamental stance of his understanding of the dynamics. Kwon Sang-ha's thought was characterized by both inheriting the doctrines of the Yulgok school and transforming them. His understanding of the dynamics maintained a perspective grounded in righteousness. This understanding resonated strongly with the righteousness articulated in the Spring and Autumn Annals(春秋義理) that he sought to uphold throughout his career. Moreover, his theory of the interplay of yin and yang, which emphasized the process by which the world comes into being, was closely connected to an understanding of how Yi and Qi operate in the real world to shape the characteristics of human nature.
Next, this study examined how Kwon Sang-ha's understanding of the dynamics underpinned his political and ideological activities. Kwon Sang-ha shared the historical perception that the contemporary reality—where the principles of yin and yang were inverted and harmony and order were disrupted—arose precisely from the cyclical changes of cosmic principles. However, Kwon Sang-ha's distinctive feature lies in how he specifically utilized this historical perception based on cosmic principle changes to assert the political legitimacy of the Yulgok School-Noron faction. Kwon Sang-ha's understanding of dynamics was also closely intertwined with the Horak debate, which centered on interpretations of human nature at the time. It is evident that Kwon Sang-ha based his comprehension of various topics within the theory of human nature on his study of the dynamics. Kwon Sang-ha's understanding of the dynamics served as the foundation supporting his political and ideological activities.
