This study conducted a research lesson targeting Chinese learners to effectively develop grammar education for Korean language learners using the “Baridegi” folktale. Currently, Korean language education in China primarily follows a grammar-centered learning approach, which often leads to students finding it difficult to engage and understand the grammar rules, as they focus mainly on memorizing and practicing them. Specifically, many students struggle with understanding Korean word order and abstract grammar rules. Therefore, this study presented an educational approach that not only teaches grammar through the “Baridegi” folktale but also enhances understanding of Korean culture. First, a step-by-step grammar lesson utilizing the “Baridegi” folktale was designed. The lesson introduced the background and storyline of the folktale, taught key grammar points through examples from the story, and, in the final stage, helped students understand the relationship between grammar and culture through advanced activities.
The grammar lesson using the “Baridegi” folktale aimed to increase the practical application of grammar and to instill positive values through understanding Korean shamanistic culture. Post-lesson survey results showed the effectiveness of the lesson. This research provides useful foundational material for Chinese teachers who will conduct grammar lessons using folktales in the future and suggests the potential of incorporating cultural content in Korean language education. It is expected that continuous research on the use of Korean folktales and cultural content will contribute to the advancement of Korean language education.
