Among the architectural subjects had the stability of a column attracted the engineers and applied mathmaticians since the ancient. Until the late of ninetieenth century, most of issues with regard to the inelastic buckling of a column had been identified and explained. The residual stress of a column, at the same time, had come to be considered as a critical factor in understanding its inelastic behavior also.
This paper is designed to explain the behavior of a steel clumn on a basis of an experimental research carried to compare with theoretical insight. The results show that the experimental outcome is in accord to a tangent modulus strength including the residual stress from the theoretical insight and that a tangent modulus strength fits to indicate a strength of the column in gerneral.
