      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Objectives: Prosocial behavior has received considerable attention because of the impact that such behavior has on social relationships and individuals’ quality of life. This study analyzed the research trends on young children’s prosocial behavior in Korea to propose future research considerations.
Methods: We analyzed 311 studies published in Korean academic journals, focusing on research contents and research methods. The frequency and percentage were computed in the data analysis.
Results: Concerning the research contents, applied research has increased markedly after 1995. Among the 311 studies analyzed, 296 were applied studies (95.18%) and 15 were basic studies (4.82%). The applied research focused largely on program development (179 studies, 57.56%) and related variables (116 studies, 37.30%). The study methods employed for researching young children’s prosocial behavior have been inclined to be quantitative (283 studies, 91.0%), rather than qualitative studies or document-based researches. The most frequently used data collection method was the test method. Concerning the types of research instruments, prior research instruments were used primarily, and few instruments were devised by the researchers involved.
Conclusions: These results suggest that conducting research in this field should be systematic and balanced. There should be in-depth basic research which includes theoretical investigations to determine the principles and directions needed for promoting young children’s prosocial behavior. Research methods should also be diversified.
