치과대학생의 성격유형과 학업성취도의 관계 = The relationship between Personality Types and the Academic Achievement levels of Dental Students

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between personality types and levels of academic achievement amongst Korean dental students. The participants were 272dental students of J University, College of Dentistry. The Myers-Briggs type indicator (MBTI), which has been validated in Korea, was used for evaluating the personality types. The GPA which was acquired at the end of the first semester was used for measuring the level of academic achievement. ANOVA and t-tests were used for the data analyses. Introversion (I), Sensing (S), thinking (T) and Judging (J) personality types were more prevalent than Extraversion (E), intuition (N), Feeling (F) and Perceiving (P) types in this study group. ISTJ ranked1st out of the 16 personality types. Next was ISTP, followed by ESTJ and ESTP. The GPA score for Sensing (S) personality types' students were higher than that of intuition (N) personality types students. The GPA score for Judging (J) personality type students were higher than that of Perceiving (P) type students.The GPA scores for SJ personality type students were higher than that of SP, NT and NF. In conclusion, dental students' academic achievement levels were different according to their MBTI personality types. These results suggest that students' personality types could be considered when it comes to developing teaching strategies, learning methodologies and counseling systems for improving levels of scholastic achievement.
