The present study purposed to investigate whether instrumental music concert activities through a rhythmic instrument play have effect on the stereotyped behaviors of students with Autistic disorder, Participants in the study were three high school aged students showing severe stereotyped behaviors enrolled in a special school, and they were participating in a concert group.
A reversal design was employed for each participant and the incidence rate of stereotyped behaviors was observed and recorded over thirty-three sessions including a maintenance period.
Results indicated that the instrumental music concert activities through a rhythmic instrument play have effect of decreasing the stereotyped behaviors of students with Autistic disorder. All participants showed a change in the rate of the stereotyped behaviors between the baseline and intervention sessions. This finding indicates that there is a functional relation between the instrumental music concert activities through a rhythmic instrument play and the stereotyped behaviors of students with Autistic disorder.
