    This paper aims to clarify the chacteristics the weathering profiles especially granite areas. The depth of the weathering profile or regolith is varied in cold climates and arid environments, bare rock maybe at the ground surface or concealed by only a few millimetres of weathering products. By contrast in some places the weathering profile is over 100m thick. Such great depths of weathering peofile are, however, rare and 20~50m is probably a common maximum depth of weathering on undulating surfaces in the humid tropics. The rate of production of weathered material(saprolite) from rock is variable and depends upon rock type, climate, and vegetation. The weathering profile on granitic rocks display a series of zone. There are 5~6 zones of study areas of weathering zone. The zone Ⅴ, a residual debris of structureless sand and clay may attain a thickness of several meters. The zone Ⅳ is a pallid silty sand with quartz such as first mineral in a matrix of chemically altered feldapar and kaolinite. In zone Ⅲ the rounded boulders, known as core-stones and less rounded with depth. Zone Ⅱ is limited weathering along the joints of bedrock. The depth at which weathering is no longer detectable is commonly known as the weathering front.
    The fact of deeper than 20m and several weathering zone of Korea the weathering profiles of granite show that Korean peninsula had warm and humid environments of the past. In South Korea), granite bed rock are so deeply weathered that the distribution of thick granite regoliths (20m and more in thickness) is wide spread. This pattern of millieux may be related to the paleo-climate in Quaternary ages which were more warm and more humid than present circumstances. Presense of clay, silt and quartz sand indicates that the granite regoliths in Korean peninsula have been formed through polygenetic processes.
