The purpose of this paper is to study the metaphor of the sword and bell in Nammyeong Josik, who was always attended it his waist. So, His the sword and bell is exhibited in his memorial in Jinju. The sword and bell is found in the history of Korea, in addition nammyeong, for example, the text Samgukyusa written by the monk Ilyeon, Hwarangdo in Silla, Yi Soonshin the navy General of Joseon, Donghak founded by Choe Jeu, Shin Chaeho and the President Park Chung-hee in modem Korea. The basis of the history of our country, like this, is also the spirit of the soldier(Mu武). So called Mun(文) , Confucian intellectuals are weak. But the soldier(Mu) are strong. So Shin Chaeho pointed out the reason that Korea dominated by the Japanese is because of the tradition of Confucian intellectuals Mun. The sword and bell in Nammyeong Josik was to rigorously check himself. It does not stop there. It shows his ideological orientation. In this paper discussed, carrying a knife with drops on body in Nammyeon, is also located in the context of Korea``s history and culture. Also discussed it is hard to find the East Asian Confucian tradition, except Wang Yangming who is founder of Yangminghak, practical and dynamic Confucians, in Ming dynasty. So nammyeong is sometimes compared with Yangming``s characters.
