가족빈곤과 가족구조가 아동학대와 방임에 미치는 영향 = Effects of Family Poverty and Family Structure on Physical Abuse and Neglect of Children

This study analyzes the effects of poverty and family structure on physical abuse and neglect of children using the 1st and 2nd year data from the Seoul Panel Study of Children. The Seoul Panel Study of Children collects data from children and their parents in 11 elementary schools in Seoul, Korea. The results of Tobit regression analyses show that poverty, especially persistent poverty, and single-parent family structure increase the risk of physical abuse and neglect of children, even after controlling for the other characteristics of children and parents. When the interaction effect of poverty and family structure is examined, the study finds that the two risk factors interact with each other to increase the risks of physical abuse and neglect. The findings of this study suggest that secondary prevention efforts of child abuse and neglect should focus on poverty and family structure as two important risk factors.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

◈본 논문은 서울지역의 11개 초등학교에 재학 중인 아동과 그 부모를 대상으로 이루어지고 있는 서울아동패널 조사의 1차년도와 2차년도 패널자료를 이용하여, 가족빈곤과 가족구조가 아동에 대한 신체적 학대와 방임에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. Tobit 모형을 이용한 분석 결과, 아동과 부모의 다른 특성 변수들을 통제한 후에도 가족빈곤, 특히 지속적인 가족빈곤과 한 부모 가족구조 형태는 아동에 대한 신체적 학대와 방임의 위험정도를 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 가족빈곤과 가족구조간의 상호작용 효과를 살펴본 결과, 두 위험요소가 상호 복합적으로 작용하여 신체적 학대와 방임에 노출될 위험이 더욱 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 본 연구의 결과는 아동학대와 방임의 고위험군을 대상으로 한 2차적 예방체제가 주목하여야 할 위험요소로서 가족빈곤과 가족구조의 중요성을 시사해주고 있다.
