The purpose of this study was to identify the participants' change of self-esteem and depression after experiencing inner healing in the group counseling. For this purpose I conducted pre-test and pro-test of self-esteem and depression with 45 subjects who were participating in group counseling of spiritual healing training meeting for a two nights and three days program held by Christian healing counseling institute in september, 2008.
As the result of it, I found that the group counseling for inner healing had positive effect on self-esteem and depression. And it showed that female, in general, had lower self-esteem and higher depression than male. When analysing in the age, 20s showed highest difference between pre-test and pro-test and 60s showed lowest self-esteem and highest depression. In the marriage status, the self-esteem score was low in the order of married persons, unmarried persons, and bereaved persons. But it was shown that unmarried persons had lowest depression, and then married persons while the bereaved persons had highest depression. In the academic degree, the vocational college graduates showed lower self-esteem and higher depression than university and high school graduates.
Even though we can not expect perfect effect of inner healing with the short term experience for two nights and three days, there was seen improved self-esteem and decreased depression. I hope that this study will be useful data for the counselors of group counseling for inner healing. And also I suggest that further study for the next program will be conducted so that the participants can keep growing with the incessant change.
