<뿌까>캐릭터의 형상적 특성에 관한 연구 = The Study on the Figuring Characteristics of Pucca(뿌까) Character

This research is the study of the principal characteristics of the Korean media franchise character, Pucca (뿌카), which is used in more than 3,000 products worldwide. The main objective of this study is to point out the reason why Pucca has achieved such a high level of popularity. Pucca`s facial features show a combination of 3 ancient peoples, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. She is wearing red and black clothes, which contrasts strongly with each other. This indicates the femininity of the ancient peoples, which is not seen in past character production. However, Pucca`s character in the animated series shows different characteristics, such as her love for bizarre adventures, leading her to strange situations. Moreover, the general offensiveness of the male characters draws the interests of viewers who appreciate this change of characteristics. Positive points such as these helped Pucca achieve worldwide popularity. But in order to maintain the high level of popularity it has attained, Pucca`s characteristics should make up for the following points. First, the character needs some innovation and creativity, such as new insights on humans and society, not simply enjoying looking for bizarre adventures. Second, the creators need to provide the audience a more in -depth view of Pucca`s various characteristics to break the expected stereotype. This will definitely give the viewers more pleasure in discovering the diverse characteristics of Pucca. Third, the creators need to emphasize Pucca`s "Korean-ness". We must keep in mind that the character`s global appeal without its "Korean-ness" is insubstantial and it is essential to make the Korean nature of Pucca more obvious to the audience.
