자문화기술지: 방법론적 특징을 통해 본 교육인류학적 가치의 탐색 = Autoethnography: Exploration of its value as a research methodology in anthropology and education

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the major characteristics and potential contributions of autoethnography in the fields such as anthropology of education, teacher education, and counseling education. Autoethnography is a rigorous qualitative research method that differs in its characteristics and practice from other methods such as ethnographic research, narrative inquiry, and life-history research. Autoethnography utilizes ethnographic methods to bring cultural interpretations to the autobiographical data of the researcher with the intent of understanding the self and its connection to others, thereby enabling in-depth cultural understanding of self and other. This paper will present practical guidance for conducting autoethnographical research by providing examples of existing literature, as well as clarifying the value and pitfall of autoethnography. It will also be shown that autoethnography has much to offer to social scientists in various fields, especially those concerned with raising cross-cultural understanding in a culturally diverse society.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

자문화기술지는 기존의 문화기술지, 내러티브 탐구, 생애사 연구와는 달리 자전적(autobiographical)으로 주관성이 가미된 연구자의 경험을 토대로 글을 구성하고, 사회, 문화, 정치적으로 연결지어 해석하며, 문화기술지적(ethnographical) 방법이 차용되는 특성을 포함하고 있는 질적 연구방법이다. 이 논문에서는 아직 우리나라에 생소한 자문화기술지를 소개하고 자문화기술지의 발달 과정과 역사, 방법론적 가치, 그리고 교육인류학과 교사교육, 상담교육과 같은 학문 영역에서의 활용 가능성을 자문화기술지 고유의 방법론적 특성과 선행연구를 통해 발견하고자 한다. 보다 구체적으로 자문화기술지의 종류를 소개하고 연구 방법 단계에 있어서 주제선정, 자료수집, 자료 분석 및 해석, 글쓰기의 특징적인 면면을 살펴봄으로써 우리나라의 교육인류학 및 교육학 영역에서 다양하게 적용될 가능성이 있음을 시사했다.
