Purpose: This paper is about technology and ecology linked to the development of sustainability discourse in terms of closed ecosystem. The purpose is to look at the historical genealogy of related important attempts, in what direction the relationship between the two has developed, and to point out the direction of future development.
Among the individual projects that led technological progress in the historical context, independent projects that advocated a closed ecosystem and enabled off-grid were selected, and by tracking the technical elements introduced by these projects and their implications on the ecological environment, historical genealogy was examined and the direction of evolution was determined. Method: Literature research such as books and articles and internet homepages, and related architects’ works were analyzed. The scope is limited to projects that are frequently discussed in the discourse of closed ecosystems from the 1920s to the present. Result: From ecotechnical architecture to ecosocial architecture securing economic feasibility through evolution is found to be the direction of progress and networking based on micro grid backed up with digital technology and appropriate technology.
