Among various areas in music study, appreciation training is very important because it allows students to understand music comprehensively and makes them get understand in music. Through music appreciation training, students can meet diverse musical pieces; as a result, their musical sensibility can be raised by growing perceiving and reacting to musical expressive elements and tone development.
In appreciation class, selection of proper musical pieces is most important in order to understand musical concepts and diverse musical activities. In order to obtain great effect from a restricted class time, musical pieces for the class should be interesting and educational.
Opera is a collective art composed with various elements such as vocal music, orchestra, scenario, ballet, stage technology, light, make-up, costumes etc.; appreciating operas can be a collective artistic experience.
This study intends to propose a music appreciation in a activity respect in more liberal environment, not existing uniform and standardized style, so that high school students can have musical interest and attention as well as proper appreciating attitude so as to met music in daily life through opera appreciation training for the students.
For this, the meaning of music appreciation and the appreciation content are firstly studied in current music and education course, and then the meaning of opera appreciation in the education course is investigated.
Data on operas in the current eight high school music textbooks is analyzed, and each practical value is studied for opera appreciation class. With the proposal to teach operas more effectively, training guides to be utilized in the school are proposed.
In order to guide opera appreciation class effectively, sufficient data related to opera should be provided to students, and appreciation should be made using high-quality media. Most of all, the class should be performed focused on various activities, in order to induce students attention.
Likewise, students musicality and initiativeness can be edified, and sufficient feeling can be built by effective operation of opera appreciation class. Therefore, teachers should study teaching guidances to enforce opera appreciation effect in the school and develop creative class guidance for more advanced musical class, based on this study.
