The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of English class applying interest-raising activities for attitude, academic self-concept, and habit in learning of special classes students.
The 10 participants of this study were selected among third to sixth grade special classes students and their SQ is over 50 in N Elementary school and G Elementary school in Daejeon. It is designed by pre-test and post-test for them into two groups composing a treatment group and a controlled group in each 5 members.
Using questionnaires to analyze this study, the method is to compare Academic Self-Concept․Learning Attitude․Learning Habit Test for pre-test and post-test, and Zoo-Phonics as a interest-raising activities program.
This study had been run about for 2 months. English Class applying interest-raising activities was carried out 15 times, 2 times per week, 40 minutes per time.
SPSS for Windows 12.0 was adopted to analyze the average difference between the treatment group and the controlled group by using t-test.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, there is a significant difference on learning attitude of treatment group after English class applying interest-raising activities.
Second, there is a significant difference on academic self-concept of treatment group after English class applying interest-raising activities.
Third, there is a significant difference on learning habit of treatment group after English class applying interest-raising activities.
It is concluded that English class applying interest-raising activities did have very positive influence on attitude, self-concept, and habit in learning of special classes students in this study. However, the 5 students of treatment group are not enough to apply for whole special classes.
English class applying interest-raising activities can be expected that it will have positive effect on learning attitude, academic self-concept, and learning habit of special classes students from the above, if the class can be applied in the school with long-term and continuous plan.
In the following studies, the final purpose of English education for special classes students who had a limitation of cognitive abilities should be studied more.
