유아교육 기관 선택 시 고려요인과 선택과정에 관한 연구 = A Study on the consideration factors and the process of selecting early childhood education institution

This study surveys and analyzes the features and needs int the process of selecting the kindergartens from the parents whose children go to early childhood education institution. Important as early childhood education is, the following research questions were set up to provide basic data for the improvement of early childhood education institution operation.
1. What are the factors that parents consider for selecting early childhood education institution?
2. From where did the parents get informations on early childhood education institution and how about the process?
3. are there any differences between early childhood education institution in the process of selecting kindergartens?
The subjects of this study were 455 parent whose children go to private kindergartens, public kindergartens and private day-care centers in Jeonju city, They were surveyed by questionnaire. The degree of confidence of measuring questions about consideration factors for selecting kindergartens was Alpha=0.716. Frequency, percentage, means, and standard deviation were calculated using the SPASS/PC program from data analysis.
According to the research questions, pearson chi-square(x^2) test and deviation analysis method were used.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, the parents consider most the following aspects for selecting kindergartens, In the aspects of operation and facilities, the parents answered that they thought the number of children per teacher, the quality of snacks and meals, and the cold and heating system were important. In the aspect of manpower, they thought it is important for director in the order of the healthy educational viewpoint, reputation, personal character, and whether he or she majored in early education. For the teachers, it is in the order of not to love with partiality and the teaching ability.
In the aspect of education contents, they thought the basic practical habit and the sociality education were most important, and then the spirit of inquiry and the creative power were important.
Second, when the parents selected the early childhood education institution, mostly they got the information of the institution from the parents whose children go to that institution. Secondly they got the information from the neighborhood. Among the information they got, the education contents and the education method were the most, and then there was the school expenses. But when the parents selected the early childhood education institution, they had difficulty in the lack of the information about the institution and the expensive school expenses.
Third, when the parents selected the early childhood education institution. 85.8% of parents visited kindergartens and interviewed the director about entering. 63.3% of parents visited kindergartens more than two places. Most parents selected the kindergartens during the regular invitation but 37.7% of parents had the time about 1 year to select the kindergartens. Most parents wanted their children to go to the same kindergarten for 2~3 years and selected the kindergartens after their discussion.
Among the many considerations to select the kindergartens, 75.7% of parents first thought the school expenses and then the education contents, the facilities and the distance to the kindergartens.
Finally, there were few differences between early childhood education institution in the process of selecting kindergartens. But there were some significant differences. Parents of private kindergartens took into more consideration the number of children per teacher, the quality of snacks and meals than those of public kindergartens. And those parents visited more kindergartens than these. But parents of public kindergartens took into consideration the school expenses than the education contents, the facilities and the distance to the kindergartens.
