좋은 사람과 좋은 시민의 긴장 = Uneasiness Between the Good Man and the Good Citizen : Possibility and Limitation of Aristotle’s Political Community

국문 초록 (Abstract)

좋은 사람(aner agathos)과 좋은 시민(polites spoudaios)의 조건이 일치할 수 있는 정치공동체의 형태와 이의 구현은 아리스토텔레스 정치철학의 중심 논제 중의 하나이다. 본 논문은 좋은 사람과 좋은 시민 사이의 관계에 대한 아리스토텔레스의 논의를 중심으로 아리스토텔레스가 수용하는 좋은 삶의 본질과 양태를 살펴보고 좋은 삶의 실현을 위한 정치공동체의 역할 및 한계에 대한 분석적 고찰을 시도한다. 좋은 사람과 좋은 시민사이의 긴장과 관련된 논쟁은 아리스토텔레스의 저작들에서 나타나는 서로 상충적일 수 있는 내용들과 아리스토텔레스의 미흡한 설명이 중첩적으로 작용한 데에서 상당부분 기인한다. 따라서 본 논문은 아리스토텔레스의『정치학』과 『니코마코스 윤리학』의 내용적 연계 구도를 재검토하면서 상기 쟁점들에 대한 아리스토텔레스의 입장을 재확인 하고자 시도한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The issue of the specific form of political community where the condition of the good man (aner agathos) is in accord with that of the good citizen (polites spoudaios) constitutes one of the central themes of Aristotle’s political philosophy. This paper inquires into the nature and contents of the virtues that produce the good man and the good citizen and the roles and limitations of political community in promoting the virtues, while paying a special attention to the uneasy relationship between the good man and the good citizen. Scholastic controversies over the issue of the uneasy relationship between the good man and the good citizen are still prominent. The paper seeks to throw an additional light upon the subject by carefully reexamining Aristotle s texts and ironing out some theoretical difficulties that derive from contradictory dispositions between the Politics and the Nichomachean Ethics.
